Welcome!!

Thank you for joining me Robert Lopez Designs, LLC for my very first online video course.

In this course I will show you how I heat treat titanium with a torch to give it vibrant and durable colors. It will include using a heat resist to layer the colors in patterns and designs. I will then demonstrate various techniques that I use to turn the sheet into a cuff. This cuff is generally used as a base for my more eclectic bracelets. I will have two follow up courses that will show you how I make my bracelets using fused Argentium silver components, building a bezel, stone setting and riveting the silver and titanium together among other techniques.

It has been a long journey getting to this point. It may not be perfect, as it is my first. As I continue to make more courses I'm sure they will only get better. I'm also sure I will receive plenty of comments and insight on how to do so. Please keep in mind that I had to learn how to do every single component of this course.  Believe me when I tell you, it probably involved way more than you think. With that in mind, please be understanding if it's not as polished as you hoped.

I have included several links and PDFs for you to review before starting the course. Among those are links to where you can purchase tools and materials. I have added a link to purchase the kit from me if you like. I will have limited stock at first, but as I generate revenue I should be well supplied. The kit for this course only requires two items and really is not super beneficial  for you to purchase from me; however future courses will most likely be very extensive and it may make it easier and more cost effective for you to acquire them from me. Doing so should generate extra income for me while saving you some change as well. I will be buying in bulk and should receive some price breaks that I can pass on to you.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy my tutorial and learn how to create beautifully colored cuffs made of heat treated titanium.

Safety, First Things First

Please review all the information provided in this section. I have included some files and links that will help you work safely in your studio. Safety should always be the first thing on your mind when entering your studio.

One should always be aware that there are certain risks involved in metalsmithing and jewelry making. The tools and equipment used in many of the processes involve some sort of risk while using them.

I am by no means an expert on safety and in fact, have been injured many times while making jewelry myself. Ultimately, you are responsible for your own safety and educating yourself on safe studio practices.

I have included a link of an eBook on the subject that I highly recommend reading which is written by Charles Lewton-Brain.

I have added some pictures of my jewelry that have heat colored titanium in them.

Please do not ask me any questions regarding any of the techniques used in these sample pieces. Please understand that some of the techniques used will eventually be covered in future courses. You have to buy the cow to get the milk!!!

FAQs

I have added some FAQs that I can foresee students asking. I will try to update it as frequent questions are presented.

Please join my Facebook Group for this workshop as most questions will be answered there. It is also a great way to connect with others in this course. I find that other students may actually be able to help with some of the answers or perhaps they may be able to give some insight on a subject quicker than I can get to it. This is also a great way for everyone to complain, praise me or even figure out what to get me for my birthday without people sending me the same gifts. ;)
